This is an opportunity for climbers who are looking to assist on a club led climb as an assistant or just to be a more educated climb team member. Topics of discussion for the day will include but are not limited to: Snow anchors/belays refresher, Rope team setup and management, z-pully refresher, basic on the fly avalanche assessment techniques, and winter camping/emergency shelter construction. Since this is a training exercise, and we are not venturing too far off the Palmer snowfield this trip will still go in less than perfect weather. Participants are expected to assist with the Intermediate Snow Skills course the following day.
Prerequisites: This weekend training is open to participants who have previously participated in Intermediate Snow Skills or have equivalent experience (Leader discretion). Participants are expected to know how to belay another climber and rappel using a belay device of their choice, use common climbing language and know how to tie basic climbing knots. Knowledge of basic snow anchors, and rope team set up are highly recommended.
Email Chris Salaz to apply.
This is an opportunity for climbers of all levels to test and improve their snow climbing skills. Depending on the group’s experience and the snow conditions, these skills may include use of the ice axe on steep snow, crampon technique, team rope travel with pickets on steep snow, building and belaying off of snow anchors and z-pulley (rescue). Since this is a training exercise, and we are not venturing too far off the Palmer snowfield this trip will still go in less than perfect weather.
Prerequisites: This weekend training is open to students who have taken basic climb school, or equivalent experience (Leader discretion). Students are expected to know how to belay another climber and rappel using a belay device of their choice, use common climbing language and know how to tie basic climbing knots.

4.8 mile, 433 ft elevation gain hike on the Baskett Slough, Morgan Lake,Mount Baldy trail.
Wonderful new park outside of Gaston. Great views and interesting trails.
Backcountry hike through a mossy, old-growth forest
Short hike near Corvallis.
There has been a landslide on the Horsetail/Oneonta Gorge loop trail so I have canceled that hike. Instead we are going to Stahlman Point above Detroit, OR. There were 5 trees down across the trail several weeks ago, but they are passable. Hopefully someone has cleared them out by now, but be prepared to detour around and/or over some trees.
