Picture Night is an opportunity to enjoy pictures and stories of outdoor adventures and travel most often presented by fellow Chemeketans. During the presentations, we often learn a bit of history about the area visited and about the people encountered. Picture Night is usually held the second Friday of each month, September through May (except December). Read on for information about this month’s presentation.
THE DALES WAY
Friday, January 9, 7:00 p.m.
Broadway Commons, Africa Room (#303)
1300 Broadway Street NE, Salem, OR
Join us as John Eells takes us on The Dales Way, an 81-mile path in NW England that follows the Wharfe River gently up to a divide and then accompanies another creek down to Lake Windemere on the southern edge of the Lake District.
John says this is "All Creatures Great and Small" country with livestock of all kinds, quaint farms and stone houses and hundreds of miles of stone walls. The PBS series was filmed here.
Not much change here abouts; the area looks much as it did 100 years ago - no strip malls, no fast food. Lots of History. The people are friendly and will chat with you, perhaps even offer you a cup of tea.
I used Mickledore Walking Tours to schedule the bed and breakfasts along the way, and they never failed me.
