Climbing Workshop - Belaying From Above
About this event
The goal of this ½ day workshop is to review and put in practice the most common methods of belaying from above.
Topics will include the pros, and cons for the following
- Belaying from your harness directly.
- Belaying from your harness with an indirect
- Belaying from the anchor using a Gri-Gri.
- Lowering from the anchor using a Gri-Gri
- Setting up a tube device (BD ATC, Petzl Reverso, etc.) in guide mode.
- Lowering someone safely from guide mode.
- Setting up a mechanical advantage system while belaying from the anchor.
The above techniques will first be demonstrated and then we will then get some hands-on practice while under the watchful eye of experienced climbers. We will be climbing at Owl slab which is a small 50-foot slab near Mary’s Peak and has around eight sport routes.
