Glacier Peak - Cool Glacier
About this event
Dates: Aug 19-22 (climb will be Aug 20-21 with 6hr of travel the days before and after)
Leader: Mike Pennington
Elevation: 10,541’
Mileage Roundtrip: ~33mi
Elevation Gain/Loss: ~8400’
Chemeketan Rating: S2
Glacier Peak is the most remote volcano we climb in the Cascade Range. No road penetrates within eight miles of the mountain and many approach hikes are more than 10 miles long. The fall floods of 2003 destroyed many road and trail bridges in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, and many have not yet been rebuilt. At present, the Cool Glacier route, once considered long, has become the most accessible route. The route itself is not technically difficult by mountaineering standards but most parties will opt for 3+ days to complete the trip. This trip will be done as two days/one night.
