Mount Olympus trip report
Author Last Post
Garry et al,

I was awaiting this to learn where events went south. Sounds more like a time issue than anything to do with the scree ladders or the moraine descent. Where did you turn back -  shortly after crossing Crystal pass? That's not that far from the base of the north face of the summit block, which is where you'd likely do the final short pitch to the summit. Just have the crappy crossing of the false summit (Five Fingers ridge) and ascending the steep snow slope to the summit block base. You seemingly have good weather and the photos are primo. Here's wishing Olympian future success to Ping, Liz and Kaitlin; who doesn't deserve some scree ladder penance for past or planned future misdeeds!

To Garry and the Olympus Crew - kudos on an eventful and fun outing!  The TR and photos are outstanding - this brings back a lot of fond memories !  That rope ladder across the washout  near Glacier Meadows looks darn steep; like running an obstacle course with full packs before the climb even begins.  Congratulations and well-done to all of you !!

PS> a couple years after I climbed Olympus for the second time, an old guy (like me) had a heart attack and fell off the ladder!

Ditto to what Aislinn said. I always enjoy reading your writings. And it even provoked me to google pics of liverworts! (Of course, Aislinn knew what those are).

Yes, a serious change in the snow topography!

Thanks Garry,

‘Fun to read - as per usual. How things change in a few years. The poor quality snow is so obvious in the photos. 😒 Still, it looks like you had fun with a good team.
