Buck Mountain Loop Hike – October 4, 2026

Nadene LeCheminant | Published on 10/6/2026

Ann Adamcik, Mary Coleman, Nadene LeCheminant (leader), Michelle Long and Roz Shirack had a delightful time hiking the Buck Mountain Loop at Silver Falls State Park. We laughed a lot, sang Smokey the Bear, admired the gigantic trees, and studied intriguing fungi and mushrooms all along the trail. Sadly, we were unable to spot any outrageously red lobster mushrooms, not for lack of trying. Our day ended with treats at the Bigleaf Market & Grill. Thanks, guys, for an awesome day!

Lyrics to Smokey the Bear

Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear.

Prowlin’ and a growlin’ and a sniffin’ the air.

He can find a fire before it starts to flame.

That's why they call him Smokey

And that’s how he got his name.
