Marion Lake May 23, 2026

Eleven hikers and one service dog enjoyed a spectacular day in May. We were surprised to find the parking lot full to overflowing with backpackers and fishermen. Surprisingly, we didn't see very many on the trail until our walk out, as more day trippers were flocking in. It WAS Memorial Day weekend after all.
Summer was coming as we admired the first rhodies and bear grass of the year. Our lunch perch on the rocks above the lake was sunny and graced with views of 3-Fingered Jack.
We marveled at Terri Fair's ability to negotiate the challenging footing with limited sight. Bret Hammang and Cori the dog helped guide her along. What a team! Kate Pratt, visiting from Colorado, was properly impressed with our ancient firs. Also enjoying the trip were Nancy Earl, Cathy McClaughry, Ann Adamcik, Karen Craven, Ann Hanus, Sumon Montri, Jen Gorski and Mary Coleman, leader.
