Oregon City History Walk - June 27, 2025

Becky Hickox | Published on 6/30/2025

We started the history walk with a presentation about John McLaughlin and a tour of his house.  Our guides were a father/daughter team of volunteers.  One of the things we learned is that the house is part of the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, but due to budget cuts it would not be open if not for a dedicated team of 5 volunteers.  After our tour we rode the municipal elevator and strolled the McLaughlin Prominade with great views of the river including the extensive (and now closed) paper mills and the Willamette Falls.  At the end of the the Prom we enjoyed lunch at the Highland Stillhouse.  Leader Becky Hickox was joined by Chemeketans Jim Nafziger, Jane Maute, Laurelyn Schellin, LJ Anderson, Diana Upton, and guests Cynthia Patterson and Denise Piaskowski.
