Climbing in Alaska - a "trip report"
Author Last Post
DAMN JERRY!!

(it was a long read....worth every minute.....it should be read out loud and put on audiofile for some of our peeps who prefer audiobooks to bookbooks)

That truly was a privilege to read. Thanks so much for sharing that with us. I had no idea Krakauer was a Corvallis kid and it's very cool that you knew him.

How did your buddies use the radio to call their parents? (when they couldn't leave a message due to no voicemail.)
Did you bring a down sleeping bag on the 42 day expedition in '76 or synthetic?
Don Sheldon sounds like an amazing human. Thanks for that excellent insight into how he handled himself.
Is your friend heading to Vinson this year still? What month is he headed down there?

Gratefully,

I finally got the time to read this story today and all I can say is "Wow!".  Jerry has told me bits and pieces of this story over the years but I never realized the full extent of their suffering and close calls.  Whether you are interested in doing this type of expedition or not, I highly recommend reading it for the pure entertainment value!

Hey climbers.  When I was a kid I attempted to climb Mt. Foraker in Alaska with 3 other lads.  Several years ago I ran across my diary from that trip and decided to compose a story about it which I have finally completed.

I hope you'll give it a read and will find it entertaining.  Probably about an hour of reading time.  Cheers.
