Crack Climbing Clinic 2008

DESCRIPTION
:
This clinic will be totally hands-on and will consist of a one evening indoor session at ClubSport in Tigard and a
weekend outdoor practice session at the Trout Creek climbing area in Central Oregon.

The indoor gym session will be taught by Club Sport climbing gym staff member Gent Mende. Taping for crack climbing, shoe selection, basic hand and foot jamming techniques will be presented. Participants will have a chance to try out the techniques on artificial cracks in the gym. The outdoor session will be one weekend at Trout Creek, where participants will have plenty opportunity to practice "jamming" techniques with various sizes of cracks on top rope.

The target audience for the Clinic is people with considerabel prior rock climbing experience and proficiency in belaying and rappelling who want to practice crack climbing techniques in a friendly and safe environment.

CAMPING: We'll camp near the Trout Creek Climbing area at a spot TBA. Bring a tent, pad, and sleeping bag suitable for the forecast weather. Meals on your own in town, in camp or someone could organize a pot-luck dinner.

CLOTHING:
wool or synthetic clothing (several layers), wool or pile cap, sun hat or bandana, flexible gloves, wind/rain parka with hood, rain pants, flexible shoes for rock scrabbling

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
helmet, harness, rock shoes and flexible approach shoes, at least 6 regular carabiners and two locking carabiners, prusik cords, big oval belay 'biner and rappel/belay devise, personal protection (daisy chain), webbing, slings, and any rock pro you might already have. Stiff, board lasted rock shoes prefered. Leader will bring and ropes and extra rock pro and webbing/slings.

CHEMEKETAN CLIMB REGULATIONS

1. Participant agrees to pay for the climber's own medical and/or rescue expenses, whether or not authorized by the Participant in the event of accident or illness.
2. Guests must sign a RELEASE FROM LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK available at the trailhead.
3. The Leader reserves the right to refuse to allow anyone to participate in the climb if the Leader believes that the person is not adequately prepared or suited for the activity.
